NYIT decided the turn their season around a tad too late. After halting their 19-game losing streak, they have now won two in a row to improve to 3-33. They defeated Iona 6-5. The winning run scored in the bottom of the eighth on a throwing error by the shortstop.
In a strange pitching box score, Elias Martinez came in relief in the third inning after Matt Diaz struggled and he proceeded to throw seven shutout innings and record his first win of the season.
The offense benefitted from three unearned runs but Frank ore led the way with three hits and a run scored. They will take on Maine this weekend.
Adelphi beat Dowling 7-4 to improve to 19-17 and drop the Golden Lions to 25-11. John Mulford out dueled Tom Bammann to hand him his first loss of the season against eight wins. He went 7.2 innings, allowed eight hits, walked one and struck out three. Mulford went six innings, gave up six hits, three runs, walked one and struck out two. John Donnelly came in and secured his fifth save of the season in 1.2 innings.
Dowling had a 2-1 lead in the third inning thanks to Jon Cruz’s two-run home run, but it was erased by Rich Mejia’s RBI double and Brandon Stahl’s two-run double. In the sixth, Donato Signore cushioned the lead with an RBI hit and in the the seventh Mejia added another RBI single.
The Golden Lions did not help them selves by committing four errors in the game. They will take on Mercy this weekend while Adelphi plays St. Thomas Aquinas.
Old Westbury beat Baruch 13-2 to improve to 16-19. The Panthers had a 20 hit attack; four by Nick Yip who also drove in two runs and scored one. Byron White had three hits and scored two as well.
Frank DiMaria went seven innings, allowing only one run and five hits for his first win of the season.
They will take on Maritime on Saturday.
St. Joseph’s swept a double header from Western Connecticut to improve to 16-15. They won Game 1 10-7 behind Matt Mills and Matt Leach.
Despite the 10 runs they only had seven hits; two coming from Dennis McAllister. Seven different players accounted for one RBI. Dan DiBlasi hit a home run as well.
They won the second game 1-0 on a combined shutout by Matt Hess and Frank Trionfo. Hess went the first five with Trionfo sealing the deal.
The lone run came in on a wild pitch in the first inning by Joe Lynn.
They will take on Farmingdale State in a big double header on Saturday.
