Stony Brook lost their first home game of the season after 15 consecutive wins. They were edged 4-1 by Central Connecticut. They are now 22-14 on the season.
I was at the game, but it was not the type of game to evaluate a team on. They did not get anything going offensively–they only had eight hits–and no player had multiple. The opposing pitcher, Nick Boyd, was very stocky but stifled them for six innings. He had some good velocity on his pitches, but I didn’t think it was anything that the Sea Wolves couldn’t handle. Their lone run came in the fourth inning on a HBP, and they stranded bases loaded after that.
The starting pitcher for Stony Brook, Josh Barry, lasted two innings. He allowed four hits and two walks, and hurt himself by throwing away a potential double play ball that scored a run and ultimately cost them another run.
They will play Albany in a three-game series this Saturday.
How about this? NYIT shut out Manhattan 13-0 to end their 19-game losing streak that dated back to March 22. They are now 2-33 on the season. Tommy Cardona fired a complete game shutout, allowing only five hits and striking out three despite six walks.
The offense was led by Frank Sanacore’s three hits (one run, one RBI) and also Canabal’s two hits (three RBI, two runs). They put this game away with a four-run fourth inning.
They look to put together a winning streak tomorrow when they take on Iona at home.
Molloy lost 10-3 to Felician to fall to 14-18 on the season. They were victimized by their four errors, which led to five unearned runs.
Bobby Kelly started and lasted three innings, for his first loss of the season. Sean Gordon and Lou Liberatore threw in relief. They combined to walk nine batters.
The offense compiled six hits; Ron Bauer had two and scored a run. They will begin a three-game series with Queens on Friday.
Old Westbury hung tough, but lost 6-4 to No. 8 ranked Kean University, who are now 26-8. The Panthers fall to 14-19. After falling behind 5-1 in the fifth, they mounted a rally thanks to a wild pitch, and RBI singles from Mike Cardino and Jesse Matos.
Braylin Perez suffered his fifth loss of the season, he went five innings and allowed two earned runs. Tyler Levine, Caleb Olsen and Alex DiSanto combined to pitch four innings in relief while allowing one run.
They will take on Baruch tomorrow in Brooklyn.
