Weekend Recap


Stony Brook lost two of three to UMass-Lowell to drop to 22-13 on the season. They won the first game of the series, 9-3, behind a strong offensive attack.

They put the game away with a five-run fifth inning, which broke a 1-1 tie. They compiled 12 hits; three by Kevin Krause (three runs, two RBI), two each by Jack Parenty, Robert Chavarria, Kevin Courtney and Casey Baker.

Bryan Tatelman improved his record to 3-0 with 4.2 innings, allowing two earned runs in relief of Tim Knesnik who was taken out after 3.2 innings despite not allowing a run.

They will play Central Connecticut tomorrow at home.

Hofstra also lost two of three, theirs coming at the hands of the University of Delaware. They are now 15-15 on the season. They won the first game on Friday 3-2. The Pride overcame a 2-0 deficit, when they tied it with two in the sixth and one in the seventh inning.

Nick Kozlowski threw a strong game; eighth innings,one run on seven hits, he allowed three walks and struck out three to improve to 6-2 on the season. Brett Schreiber saved his seventh game of the season.

Two of the their three runs came on wild pitches in the game. Kenny Jackson had the only RBI.

They will take on LIU-Brooklyn on Wednesday.

It was another painful weekend for NYIT, who was swept by St. John’s by a combined score of 41-10 and are now 1-33 on the season. Their losing streak is now at 19. They will look to end the negativity tomorrow against Manhattan.

Dowling split with CW Post on Saturday, they will finish their series today at Dowling. The Golden Lions (23-9) took the first game 9-1, behind Tom Bammann’s complete game three-hitter. He is now 8-0 on the season. He walked two and struck out eight. Chris Anderson took the loss for the Pioneers, he is now 0-3 on the season.

The Golden Lions put together a 16-hit attack led by Jon Cruz and Andrew Abreu who both had three. RJ Going, JC Brandmeier, Dan Parisi and Rob Veltra all had two hits.

The second game was won 3-2 by the Pioneers. Mike Eckerle threw six strong innings to improve to 6-1 on the season, while Kyle DeMeo falls to 3-1 after he allowed one run in five innings.

The go-ahead run was scored by Rick Alessi on an error by Abreu. Dan Jagiello came in for the seventh inning, it was his first save of the season.

Molloy split with Bridgeport on Saturday, they will finish their series at home today. In their victory, Shea Spitzbarth threw a seven inning one-hit shutout to lead the Lions to a 1-0 victory. He walked three and struck out eight to improve to 3-2 on the season.

The lone run scored in the fifth inning on an RBI single by Carlos Guzman, who went 2-3.

The Lions are now 14-16 on the season.

Adelphi lost two of three to LeMoyne to fall to 17-16 on the season. They won the middle game 8-7 on a walk-off hit by backup catcher Rich Cambria. They overcame a 7-5 deficit in the bottom of the ninth. Brandon Stahl and Nick Zito had driven in the two runs prior to the walk-off.

Chris Lemorocco started for the Panthers but allowed five runs in four innings. Mike Cranston came in and threw two innings in relief, allowing one run. Nick Batas came on and threw the final two innings with three strikeouts and he won his second game of the season.

The Panthers would like to forget the third game, they were dismantled 21-8. They made six errors and three different pitchers allowed five runs. They will look to get back on the right track today against Concordia.

Farmingdale split a double header with Purchase on Friday. They lost 3-2 and won 2-1 in 10 innings. They are now 18-10 and 8-5 within the Skyline Conference. In the 2-1 victory, Anthony Alvino drove in the winning run with an RBI single in the top of the 10th.

Alex Weingarten continued his strong season with 6.2 innings, allowing one run on six hits while striking out five. Daniel Tierney came on and 3.1 light-out innings to record his fourth win of the season.

Old Westbury beat the City College of New York on Friday 11-5. They trailed 5-4 in the seventh but put together seven runs in their final three innings. Jake Coners went 3-for-6 with two RBI and two runs scored. Tommy Ziegen went 3-for-5 with three RBI and two runs scored.

Frank DiMaria went the first five innings without allowing a run but did not factor in the decision. Tyler Kapela went 3.1 innings with one earned run for his first win of the season. They will take on St. Joseph’s today.

St. Joseph’s swept NYU-Poly and are now back to .500 at 14-14 on the season. They won the first game 13-3 with Jonathan Beekman going the distance for his first win of the season. He allowed eight hits and three runs while striking out six. The offense smacked 15 hits; two each from Joe Lynn, Dan Diblasi (three RBI), Anthony Andreani (two RBI), Tom Rubenstein, Josh Outsen and Ryan Walsh.

They won the second game 5-2. Matt Mills recorded his second win of the season with two innings in relief of Rob Hyde. Joe Calabrese went 2-for-3 with three RBI. Anthony Bonilla went 3-for-4 with three runs scored.
