The Adelphi Panthers lost two of three this weekend to the College of Saint Rose in Albany to fall to 15-14 on the season, but remain in the mix in the Northeast-10 conference with a 10-7 record.
They were able to capture the series finale with an 8-7 win on Sunday. Chris Lemorocco started, but struggled in his 2.2 innings of work. He was relieved by Mike Cranston who took over in the third inning. The Panthers offense was able to come to life, led by Rich Mejia’s two-run single and Nick Zito following with a run-scoring single of his own.
In the fourth inning, Mejia and Zito once again hit consecutive run-scoring hits to put the Panthers up 5-4. They added insurance runs with an RBI hit by Cliff Brantley (3-for-5) and a sac-fly by Brandon Stahl.
St. Rose cut it close with two runs in the sixth and one in the seventh but Matt Abramowitz and John Donnelly fired the final 3.1 innings with the latter recording the save.
The Panthers will play five games this week, beginning tomorrow against Pace.
