Anthony Papa Fires Perfect Game

For the second straight week, a Nassau County high school pitcher has fired a perfect game. Last week, Mike Delio completed the swing-and-miss fest of 21 strikeouts, Papa–also a junior–struck out 17 in his team’s 8-0 win over Great Neck North.

Papa, regarded as one of the better pitchers in the county, benefitted from the rare 9-3 putout on a would-be single to right field, but Francis Alexander came up firing and threw out the runner.

He took care of the rest himself, allowing only three other balls to be put in play, with one of them being a groundball back to the mound.

With the victory, Division improves to 5-1 on the season in Conference A-II. They are the class of the division but will be battling with Hewlett, Manhasset and Plainedge all season

If Division’s hurlers continues to throw the ball like this, the division could be wrapped up prematurely.
