There’s something about giving up base hits that Frankie Vanderka, Stony Brook ace, does not like. He tossed his third career no-hitter on Saturday against Albany in a 7-0 win. He walked two, hit one and struck out 10.
“I started to notice around the seventh inning,” he said. “I realized I needed to get through the lineup one more time,” he added.
Vanderka had no issue navigating through nine more outs. He didn’t allow the ball to leave the infield in the ninth inning and even struck out the final batter to cap it off.
His first no-hitter came in 2011 and he tossed another last season against Fordham. He now has three of the four in program history.
Vanderka has a 2.48 ERA and is confident about the team moving forward. He claims they are “definitely” back on track.
