Yesterday was another busy day for baseball team’s from Long Island. Here’s everything you need to know.
Farmingdale State won a sloppy 16-7 game over William Patterson. Both teams committed five errors, but the Rams were able to capitalize on it. They broke it open with a five-run sixth inning and added four in the seventh.
Anthony Alvino went 4-for-5 with four RBI, Ryan Levine with 3-for-3 with two runs scored and Mike Scarlato with 2-for-2 with four runs scored.
Shaun Melito recorded the win by tossing 1.1 innings allowing zero earned runs with two strikeouts. Senior Chris Dragone added three scoreless innings.
The Rams will travel to Florida for their annual trip, they are sitting pretty at 5-1.
Adelphi’s losing streak hit five, as they were shutout 10-0 by Barry University. Vincent Caputo suffered the loss in his first college start. It was 3-0 entering the seventh but the Knights broke it open with a 7-run inning. John Bivas was victimized for four-runs without recording an out. The Panthers offense was dormant, recording six hits by six different players.
They will play AIC today, desperately looking to get on track.
Dowling was trounced by New Haven 15-1 at home, uncharacteristic for the Golden Lions. New Haven pounded out 19 hits, with five players with 2+ hits, and scored in six of the nine innings.
Tyler Hardison suffered his first loss of the season. The offense did not help, mustering only four hits on the day. Dowling drops to 7-5.
CW Post shutout Bloomfield 10-0 in Florida behind Jake DeCarli’s strong seven inning performance, and held Bloomfield to six hits. The offense was led by Kyle Fagan’s two-hit and two-RBI game.
They move to 3-2 and will take on Adelphi next Tuesday.
Hofstra lost 13-5 to Rutgers, with a seven-run third inning being the big blow. Despite the loss, Robbie Cafiero went 3-for-3 with an RBI for the Pride.
They will travel to South Carolina to take on Furman University.
NYIT dropped a double-header to Fordham 7-6 and 11-8. They lost the first game on a walk-off hit. They did receive multi-hit games from three players. Evan Cohen suffered the loss for the Bears.
In the second game, they were up 5-0 in the top of the second but failed to hold the lead. They were able to pound 12 hits, with multi-hit games from three players. Joe Daru and Nick Sebastian both drove in two runs.
They are 0-6 on the season. They will look to win their first game today against Manhattan.
