After three postponements to start the 2014 season, the St. Joseph’s Eagles opened their season on Saturday with a double header sweep of Plattsburgh State by the scores of 10-6 and 1-0.
In the first game, they came back from a 5-run deficit that they were in after the top of the first. They swiped the lead right back after a run in their half of the first and five in the second, with the big blow coming on a two-run double by Dan Diblasi.
Thomas Moore came in relief and fired three hitless inning for the victory. St. Joseph’s added four in the sixth inning for insurance.
In the second game, Rob Hyde was dominant for the Eagles, he fired five shutout innings but did not receive any runs of support. The Eagles loaded the bases with none out in the sixth with a chance to take the lead, but could not muster a run. They also loaded the bases with none out in the seventh inning. They were in danger of not scoring once again after an infield fly and a strikeout but with two outs and a 2-2 count, Calabrese got hit with a pitch to win the game.
Glenn Patriss was the victor for the Eagles, who will now travel to Florida for their annual trip and take on Fredonia State on Sunday.
