Hoping to get away from the dreary northeast weather, the Adelphi baseball team traveled to beautiful Boca Raton, FLA for their annual trip. Ironically, the first game was cancelled due to inclement weather.
They have dropped their first three games in sunny Florida to Dominican on Friday and a pair to No. 19 ranked Wilmington on Saturday and Sunday.
On Friday the Panthers were in position to win the game, thanks to an eighth inning RBI single by Robert Vani to push the score to 4-3. In the ninth, however, senior closer Matt Abramowitz allowed two runs to come across. He was relieved by Nick Batas but the damage was done, Dominican stole the victory 5-4.
On Saturday, the Panthers were hanging tight down 2-1 in the third inning until Wilmington broke it open. Sophomore starter John Mulford suffered his first loss of the season, going 4.1 innings and allowing four earned runs. Vincent Caputo had a rough outing, facing four batters and they all came around to score. Wilmington ultimately went on to win 9-3.
In the third game, freshman starter TJ Santiago tossed a gem, holding Wilmington scoreless into the 7th inning in his collegiate debut. Ultimately, they allowed four runs to come in to break the game open. The final score was 5-2. Nick Batas took the loss. Chad Houghton and Kyle Ambury drove in runs with RBI singles.
The Panthers will be back in action today against Lynn University.
