Long Island Teams Prepping for Playoffs

After a short hiatus, Baseball on the Island returns. Not a moment too soon either.

The playoffs are right around the corner for some teams–and already upon us for some–and Long Island teams are gearing up.

St. Josephs begins the first-round of the Skyline tournament today as they face Maritime in a win-or-go-home matchup.

Here is where the rest of the teams stand as May begins:

Adelphi: Despite their 21-22-1 record, the Panthers have played their best ball in the division. They have four games remaining, including a crucial three-game series against New Haven who ended their season last year. They currently hold the fourth and final playoff spot in the Southwest Division of the NE-10 with a two-game lead over Assumption.

Dowling: The Golden Lions are 18-18-1 (12-8 in the ECC), they will play today against Felician. They will conclude their regular season with a four-game set against Mercy prior to the ECC playoffs commencing.

Farmingdale: The Rams clinched the No. 1 season for the Skyline Conference with a 15-1 record. They will wait to play the winner of St. Joe’s vs. Maritime on Friday at home. They will host the playoffs.

Stony Brook: With their 9-12 conference record, the Seawolves are currently fifth in the six team America East. They still have ten games remaining and can potentially sneak into a playoff spot.

Hofstra: The Pride are in eighth in the ten-team Colonial Athletic Association Conference with an 8-10 record. They have 11 games remaining, including three-game series against conference foes William & Mary.

C.W. Post: They have fallen on some hard times, suffering a 5-15 April. They have a 6-14 conference record and will most likely be on the outside looking in during the playoffs.

Old Westbury: The Panthers finished the regular season with the No. 2 seed for the playoffs and have an overall record of 23-13. They will play the winner of Mount Saint Mary and Purchase on Friday at Farmingdale.

NYIT: They have a 5-11 conference record, and stand at 7-35 overall. They will play Army today at West Point.
