Saturday Recap 4/20

Farmingdale State: The Rams took both games of a doubleheader Saturday against Purchase, clinching the #1 seed in the Skyline playoffs with a 15-1 conference record. In game one, the Rams won 4-2, who were led on offense from catcher Eric Weiner, who went 3-4 with two RBI and a run scored. Anthony Eilers dominated in game two, throwing a complete game shutout in seven innings, allowing only four hits and striking out eight. The Rams winning streak has extended to 14 and look to take this hot streak into the playoffs.
Old Westbury: Like Farmingdale State, the Panthers swept their Saturday doubleheader, as they faced Mount Saint Vincent. In game one, it was a back and forth game, with six lead changes, but Old Westbury was able to hold on to a 9-7 victory. The offense was led by John Angelino and Jacob Coners, who both had two RBI each. Mount Saint Vincent’s four errors were costly and played the deciding role in this one. Game two more lopsided than the first game, as Old Westbury pounded MSV pitching in a 12-1 victory. Christopher Vitale tossed a complete game, tossing seven strong innings and striking out five. Jacob Coners had another good game, going 2-4 with a run scored and Jonathon Pagan and Robert Crocitto both had two RBI games.
St. Joseph’s College:It was a tough day for the Golden Eagles, as they dropped both games of their doubleheader to Maritime. Jonathan Beekman pitched well enough to earn a victory, but too many second chances on three errors forced him to give up three unearned runs. The early deficit was too much for St. Joe’s to comeback, as they fell 5-3. Sal Castagnaro and David Ramos split the seven inning game for Maritime, holding St. Joe’s to just two runs and a 4-2 victory. In conference, both teams now hold a .500 record, looking to earn themselves a playoff appearance.
StonyBrook:The Seawolves dropped both games of a doubleheader in two nail biting, one run games to Maine. Frankie Vanderka was out-pitched by Tommy Lawrence, as both went the distance in a seven inning game. StonyBrook jumped to a 1-0 lead in the first on a sacrifice fly by Anthony Italiano, but a run in the fourth and fifth by Maine put them ahead and held on to a 2-1 victory. It was another one run game in game two, as Maine held on for a 3-2 victory. A.J. Bazdanes tossed a complete game for Maine, striking out nine over nine innings. Brendon McNitt was tagged for three runs on nine hits in just 4.2 innings. Tim Knesnik held Maine to just one hit over the next 3.1 innings, but the bats were unable to regain the lead.
Hofstra: Saturday’s game went into extras, as Hofstra was able to score in the bottom of the 13thfor the win over Delaware. Robbie Cafiero led off the 13thgetting hit by a pitch. Kenny Jackson then reached second on an error by the second baseman, advancing Cafiero to third. Jared Hammer grounded out to short and Matt Reistetter was intentionally walked to load the bases. Shortstop Joe Perez dropped a bunt on a squeeze play back to the pitcher, who tried to flip it home but was not able to record the out in time.
Adelphi: The Panthers split a doubleheader Saturday against American International College. Pitchers Chris Pabisch, Jonathon Mulford and Dillon McNamara combined for a shutout in the 3-0 victory. Nick Zito went 2-4 with a run scored and Vinny Gaetano went 1-3 with two RBI. In game two, Jeff Andersen only recorded one out as he allowed four hits and seven runs, four of which were earned. After falling to an 8-0 deficit in the first, it was tough for Adelphi to scuffle back and the pitching kept allowing runs, as they fell 16-4.
Molloy:Molloy’s doubleheader against Post University was cancelled on Saturday. There is no makeup date scheduled.
