The Panthers won two crucial games against Merrimack by the scores of 1-0 and 12-3. In the first game it was senior Jeff Andersen who dominated for 7.1 innings, allowing only six hits and one walk while striking out three. He left with a 1-0 lead, which was scored by junior John Campbell on a fielder’s choice. The run stood up as the Panthers gave the ball to Dillon McNamara who continued his incredible scoreless streak of 2013 and saved his seventh game of the year with 1.2 shutout innings. It was a class pitcher’s duel with Merrimack’s Alek Morency tossing a complete game in the loss.
Game Two was much more of an offensive show with the Panthers knocking 19 hits. It was a bit of a peculiar lineup, but it certainly paid off. The Panthers were without senior captain Anthony Zarrella, who injured his wrist on Saturday, but received five hits from DH Vincent Sharkey and two RBI from Howard Beach native Anthony Infante who was hitting cleanup for the first time in his career. The winning pitcher was senior Jimmy Milani who tossed five innings and allowed two runs to move to 2-1 on the season. The Panthers improve to 13-14-1 on the year.
