Senior southpaw, Joe Burg improved to 3-2 by tossing 7 solid innings, scattering 9 hits, 0 walks and allowing 3 earned runs. Shortstop Joe Perez had a good day at the dish, going 2-4 with 3 RBI’s, including a bases-loaded, 2 run single. Hofstra is 10-16 and have won 5 in a row.
StonyBrook:The Seawolves took on UMBC today at Joe Nathan Field in a double header. Game 1 was all StonyBrook with an 8-0 victory. Junior Frankie Vanderka was on his game today, tossing a complete game shutout, allowing just 3 hits, walking 1 and whiffing 7 in 7 innings. Anthony Italiano provided the offense going 1-2 with a 3 run home run. In Game 2, StonyBrook held on to a 5-2 lead for the sweep of the double header. First Basemen Kevin Courtney went 2-4 with a home run, 2 RBI and 2 Runs scored. Daniel Zamora earned his first victory of the season going 6.1 innings with 9 K’s and 1 earned run. The Seawolves improve to 9-17 and 4-5 in the America East.
Adelphi:The Panthers split a double header today against Le Moyne, winning 2-1 and falling 7-6. Junior Stephen Bove tossed 7.1 innings allowing just 1 run followed by Dillon McNamara, who tossed 1.2 innings of scoreless ball to earn his 6thsave of the season. The bats for both teams were quiet, but catcher Kevin Hutzel provided 2 hits with an RBI. In Game 2, Adelphi had a 6-3 lead going into the 9thinning before it all fell apart. Nikolas Batas allowed a 2-run home run then taken out for Vincent Caputo, who gave up 2 more runs on 2 hits without getting an out. It’s a tough loss for the Panthers, especially in a conference game, now with a 11-10 record.
Molloy: Molloy and Dowling’s bats were silenced in both games of the doubleheader today, with 2 classic pitching duels. In Game 1, Molloy lost 2-1 behind Max Schonfeld, who pitched a great game, with a complete game allowing just 2 runs. He was out pitched by Dowling’s Tyler Badamo, who also went 9 innings, giving up just 3 hits and striking out 10. Game 2 was another pitchers duel that left Molloy in defeat 3-1. Molloy’s record has dipped to 10-17 and will face Dowling again on Monday 4/1.
C.W. Post: After falling behind 2-0 in the first, Rafael Martinez and Mike Eckerle shut down Post Universities bats for the rest of the game. Catcher Anthony Corona put the Pioneers up with a 3-run homer in the 4th, and 2 insurance runs were tacked on in the 7thby David Grovenveld and Keith Herring. Eckerle finished the last 5 innings of the game, holding on to complete the 5-2 victory. C.W. Post improves to 9-11 on the year.
