Sunday Roundup

Sunday featured some huge match ups for Long Island teams. Here is everything that happened.

Farmingdale vs Old Westbury: Two bitter rivals matched up in a Skyline Conference double header which was a rematch of the 2012 conference finals.

The Rams won the first game by the score of 8-4. Mike Dolce was the winning pitcher as he improves his record to 2-0 on the season. He relieved Anthony Eilers who labored through 1.2 innings allowing 2 ER on 4 hits and 2 walks.

The remainder of the game was controlled by Farmingdale who scored three runs in the second and fifth innings. Tom Rydzewski recorded three hits and scored three times.

In Game 2, the Panthers obliterated the Rams pitching as they built up a 13-0 lead through five innings. They ultimately added six more as they captured the second game 19-3. Tim Walsh recorded the quality start as he moved to 1-3. James Power was on the short end as he lasted only 0.1 innings and his record moves to 3-1.

Adelphi: It was a tough weekend for the Panthers as they dropped all four games as their record moves to 7-9-1. In Game 1, St. Michaels won 4-3. John Bivas was charged with the loss who relieved Jeff Anderson, who tossed 7 solid innings yielding only two runs.

Game Two was another gritty game. Stephen Bove was the tough luck loser as he tossed eight strong innings, and he settled down to shut down St. Michaels for the final five innings after allowing three in the first three frames.

The bright spot was Brandon Stahl and Ray Triano who both recorded three hits. The bats were silent otherwise.

Stony Brook: The Seawolves lost the third game of the series to Binghamton by a score of 8-1. Their record drops to 7-15.

The losing pitcher was Daniel Zamora who falls to 0-5 on the season.

The offense was silent tallying only five hits but Johnny Caputo had three of those.

Dowling: The Golden Lions lost a marathon affair to St. Thomas Aquinas by the score of 1-0. The lone run came on a sacrifice fly by Rich Baerga in the top of the 16th.

JJ Bessell was the starter for Dowling and he tossed the first 9.1 innings of scoreless baseball. Dowling drops to 5-11 on the season.

St. Joseph’s:  The Golden Eagles possibly turned their season around with a sweep of Mt. St. Vincent’s by the scores of 13-3 and 3-1.

In Game 1 Rob Hyde recorded the victory as he tossed a quality start. The offense was led by Mike Alisio who amassed two hits and four RBI.

In Game 2, Dan Diblasi went three-for-four with an RBI and Kenny Willms recorded two hits and an RBI. The winning pitcher was Steven Szobesky who fired 5.2 innings yielding only one run.

Hofstra: The Pride defeated the University of Rhode Island by a score of 3-1 to improve to 6-16 on the season. The winning pitching was Dave Jesch who fired the first 5.1 innings and was relieved by Brett Schreiber.

The offense was led by Matt Reistetter and Chris Nardo who both tallied a hit and an RBI.
