Saturday’s Roundup

Adelphi: In their first conference games of the season, the Panthers were swept by St. Thomas Acquinas. In Game 1, despite issuing 12 walks the Panthers came back from a 7-5 deficit thanks to a home run from Anthony Zarrella. Unfortunately in extra innings they allowed two runs to score on wild pitches which was the difference.

In Game 2, sophomore Mike Cranston (5-0 in 2012) had a rough day allowed 9 ER in 3.1 innings. The Panthers fought back and took a 4-3 lead but gave it back. They were defeated 9-6 and move to 7-7-1 on the season.

St. Joseph’s: The Golden Eagles got on the right track as they won both games against Mt. St. Mary’s by scores of 15-6 and 9-4. An oddity occurred as Kenny Willms was hit by a pitch on five different at bats which appears to be a record. Beekman was the winning pitching in the first game and Dan Diblasi was victorious in Game 2 as he fired the complete game. St. Joseph’s moves to 4-9 on the season.

Farmingdale:  The Rams won both games against Mt. St. Vincent’s. Chris Dragone came in with the bases loaded and 0 outs in the first. While he allowed the inherited runners to score he fired the next five innings, and became the winning pitcher when the Rams exploded for 10 runs. Terrance Bohonan drove in four runs.

Matt DeRamo was the winner in Game 2 as he threw 4 innings and benefited from Ron Remi and Ryan Levine’s 2 RBI day. The Rams move to 8-8 on the season.

Old Westbury- Wow. quite the offensive day as the Panthers defeated NYU-Poly by the scores of 27-8 and 17-2. They amassed 33 stolen bases on the day. Here is a link to the box scores. They move to 5-7 on the season and have a showdown with Farmingdale tomorrow.

Stony Brook: The Seawolves split a DH with Binghamton, losing 10-7 in Game 1 and winning 4-1 in Game 2. Junior Frankie Vanderka continued his torrid stretch as he threw his third consecutive CG, improving his record to 3-2 with a 1.65 ERA. Catcher Anthony Italiano hit a home run and Kevin Courtney had the go-ahead RBI single. The Seawolves improve to 7-14.

Hofstra: The Pride were swept in a DH by the University of Rhode Island by scores of 11-1 and 2-1. URI’s Mike Bradstreet improved his scoreless inning streak to 30 in Game 1.

The lone hits for the Pride in Game 2 were by Matt Reistetter and Kenny Jackson. Hofstra fell to 5-16 on the season.

CW Post: They split a DH with Queens College as they won the first game 12-1 but were defeated 4-3. In the victory, Bo Budkevics threw a CG, scattering eight hits and striking out eight to improve to 2-2 on the season. Kevin Chenicek recorded a three hit day and scored three times in the win.

In the loss, Mike Eckerle departed with a 3-1 lead after 6 innings but Queens scored three times in the seventh off Anthony Zappulla who suffered the loss to fall to 0-2. CW Post falls to 7-9.

Molloy: They won their DH over Mercy by scores of 6-1 and 9-6. In Game 1 Max Schonfeld tossed eight strong innings allowing only seven hits and one run to improve his record to 3-2. Kris Kelly drove in two of the runs.

In the second game, Erik Pyle led the offense with three hits and four RBI, while Alex Miden recorded the victory with tossing six innings and yielding three runs. The save was recorded by Patrick Brown.  They improved to 7-9 with the win.

NYIT: Columbia swept won games of the DH by scores of 2-0 and 2-1. In Game One they only allowed two hits but were unable to muster a run against the Columbia pitching staff. Cline and Donino combined on the shutout.

Jose Checo suffered the tough luck loss in Game 2 despite throwing six innings and allowing only two runs. Ali Rodriguez drove in the lone run.
